What is terracotta?

  • Terracotta, Italian for "baked earth," is a type of natural, clay-based, non-vitreous earthenware. It is typically fired at relatively low temperatures (900°C–1000°C), creating a porous, reddish-brown, brownish-red, or buff-coloured material commonly used for pottery, gardening pots, sculptures, and architectural elements like roofing and tiles.
