What is zǐshā?
- 紫砂 (zǐshā, or Yixing Purple Clay) is a unique, porous clay found primarily near Yixing City in Jiangsu Province, China. It is world-renowned for making high-quality, unglazed teapots that are prized for their ability to enhance the flavour and aroma of tea.
- Yixing teapots are central to Chinese Gong Fu tea culture and are often considered functional art pieces. Because of the high demand and limited supply of authentic, high-quality ore, genuine Yixing ware are highly sought after by collectors.
