What is zǐshā?
紫砂 (zǐshā, or Yixing Purple Clay) is a unique, porous clay found primarily near Yixing City in Jiangsu Province, China. It is world-renowned for making high-quality, unglazed teapots that are prized for their ability to enhance the flavour and aroma of tea.
Yixing teapots are central to Chinese Gong Fu tea culture and are often considered functional art pieces. Because of the high demand and limited supply of authentic, high-quality ore, genuine Yixing ware are highly sought after by collectors.
