Period: late 19th century, Qing dynasty
Material: Bronze
Mark: Apocryphal Xuande mark, 宣德年製
Origin: China_____
This antique Chinese bronze incense burner dates to the late 19th century, during the Qing dynasty, and was made in deliberate imitation of the celebrated Xuande bronzes of the Ming period.
Xuande marks became closely associated with prestige and quality in Chinese bronze censers, and later examples were often cast with apocryphal Xuande marks in homage to that earlier tradition.
Rather than being a Ming Xuande-period piece itself, this burner reflects the long-standing admiration later craftsmen and collectors held for Xuande style, design, and aesthetic balance. Its appeal lies both in its own sculptural presence and in the historical lineage it consciously evokes.
